The tantalums are much preferable due to better temp coefficient and better stability. You can make a non-polarized cap by connecting two caps (preferably of the same capacitance and voltage range) "back to back" (e.g. connect the two "+" sides together and connect the "-" wires to the points on the AFM. You can also use nonpolarized caps if you check the voltage at the AFM connections and install the cap with the "+" side to the AFM connection that measured positive.
