Air that leaves the turbo...which helps prevent detonation, and also allows for a higher boost...BUT turbo's disels use a turbo as air pump, so there is no 'boost' in the gasoline turbo sense....it chills air from the turbo (after the turbo).

The thing that determines a turbo's longevity, is whether it is oil or water cooled. Watercooled turbo's lasted MUCH longer. Oil cooled ones, just cooked in oil when the engine stopped running.
