Carefully inspect the distributor's electronic module and associated connector. I want to emphasize the word "carefully". The molded plastic casing containing the three conductors is most likely cracked and very brittle. My theory is moisture is shorting out the firing signal due to this break down of insulation. To test this theory spritz the distributor with a spray bottle and try to start the engine. I removed the distributor and reinforced the plug and wires with epoxy. While I had it out I cleaned and lubricated the timing advance mechanism.
