I'm posting this to a bunch of VW lists,

A couple of days ago, I got back from a three day trip to Iceland. Why Iceland in the winter? Why not? Besides where can you swim in a geothermal pool of water with a temp of 100 degrees in the middle of a snow storm and a -10 degree windchill factor!

Anywho, I digress...most of the time was spent in Reykjavik, and well, the quantity of "interesting" (non Golf/Jetta/Polo) VWs was rather limited. In three days I saw only two air-cooled beetles, a 1303 and a 1200 both 73/74ish. It could be that either the old timers are nestled safe in their garages for the winter...or judging by the looks of the car population, old cars don't seem to exist there (90% of the cars I saw were less than 4 years old).

Found a VW dealer and got a "what are you nuts" look when I asked for information about New Beetles. So, I assume the New Beetle is not coming there in the immediate future.

As far as vans go, saw one T2 home built camper probably a 76 or so, half dozen T3s, and at least 20 or so T4s (Eurovans to us here in the states). The T4s are used for everything from taxis to delivery vehicles. Lots of different variations as well...TDIs, 4 and 5 cyl gas.....long wheelbase, short wheel base, 2wd and synchros. The interesting thing about the T4s there is none of the ones I saw had the rear hatch arrangement as most of us are used to. Instead every single one that I saw had twin doors at the back...interesting.

Ric
