Vanagonauts, Be advised I had a removable faceplate CD/radio stolen from my Vanagon while in the mechanic's fenced in yard. No, I didn't leave the faceplate attached. I still have it. My nickels worth. Dan "AM Radio" Hall PS Das Boot is still in drydock. It took the FLAPS at N*P* 5 days to tell me that they couldn't get me a distributor, only send mine off to get it rebuilt. 4-6 weeks?? Geez!!

LouiZe,

I asked a similar thing before buying my syncro westfalia and bringing it home to Brooklyn. Got some good tips, partly from searching the archives and partly by p-mail. You might try the archives 'round last August.

I use a "club" for a visible deterrent. These are de rigeur around here. I had a ~$400 Clifford alarm installed for more deterrence, mainly against those who would ransack the bus looking for stuff. The alarm has a "dual-zone" sensor to give a warning scream if it is bumped, before the alarm would be set to go off. I also got a removeable faceplate radio.

Ultimately, if someone who is smart enough and can get enough money for it wants to steal it, they will regardless of preventative measures. I don't think vanagons are a big target for theft.

Good Luck. -- Regards, David Bogle Brooklyn '87 Syncro Westfalia
