On my 87 it's a round tube about 1.5" in diameter as I recall. Shouldn't
be a problem with cold air getting in as the battery compartment is
sealed pretty well. No, the wires aren't stock.

Aux batteries are usually sealed gel-cel construction and don't vent
nearly as much hydrogen.

Don't know how to measure the outgassing but it's so easy to properly
vent the battery, why not do it?

Don't know what you mean by an "extra" vent. You have two vent tubes?
