Dennis - I think there's something more to this discussion than meets the eye when one speaks of stroke vs power! Back in the '70s, I had a '66 Malibu Wagon with a 283. Nice performer. It died and I put a "307" in it, which was essentially a 283 with a 327 crank, which turned out to be one big DOG. Found a "302", which was essentially a 327 with a 283 crank in it and it ran like a scalded cat, MUCH stronger than the 283! I do not believe that one can predict performance based on the stroke of an engine.

I've read notes from folks who think the Mazda rotary is some kind of "low torque" engine. My suspicion is that they have never driven a RX-7!
