Hello Vanagon Diesel folks Well after a few years of looking for a Vanagon Diesel, driving about a 1000 miles to look at various ones I finally found 1 only 27 miles from home. Nice too... Seats look almost new. Cloth interior and around 134k on a van that spent most of its time in Northern Florida. Well there is a catch. It came without a motor. None.. not a blown motor.. No motor. So I am looking for one. My plan is to convert it to a turbo diesel. I see a lot on here about the 1.6 TD and the 1.9 TD. I also saw a source for new engines here awhile back. I guess I am interested to know if the 1.9 TD will live longer pushing the van than the 1.6TD? Would the 1.9TD allow for lower gearing so the engine will be turning slower for a given speed and therefore last longer? Is it worth the extra effort? Most of my driving is done at 60 or 65 mph on the highway. I already have a 1.6 Turbo charger and the turbo pump Seems like it will be difficult to get intake and exhaust manifolds for the 1.9TD. Is there a solution to this? I am in Northwestern Connecticut. Looking for suggestions on locating an engine and which one would be more desirable based on the trade offs Thank you for your help
