I've received a few responses to me question, and I want to thank
everyone for the suggestions. The general concensus seems to be that it
would not be surprising if the release shaft and bushing (the mechanic
said that this just cracked when they tried to remove it and it couldn't
be saved, made of plastic).
However, it's not clear why the slave
cylinder would need replacement given that there's been no fluid loss and
that the pedal feel never changed. The service manager actually said
that (referring to the slave cylinder) there's fluid in there, and that's
why it needs to be replaced. Any idea what he might mean? If it's
really leaking, would he not have just said that?
Again, thanks for the help.
