Subject: 90 Automatic Trans Problems

I'm new to the list so please pardon my ignorance. Does anybody else have automatic transmission problems? I had the transmission rebuilt at 99,000 miles. Then I had the differential rebuilt at 100,000 miles. Then I had the transmission rebuilt again at 140,000miles. I've got 160,000 miles & I am getting worried again (it doesn't want to shift into 3rd gear until its warmed up). Is this a common malady? VW wanted about 2800 plus installation so I had a local shop do the work. I'm afraid of AAMCO because of horror stories from other people. Is it time to wave good-bye to my (wife's) beloved Vanagon?
