Yes. If you detect the leak early, you may be able to get by with putting in a kit, to just replace the seals. Once the leak starts, though, corrosion of the cylinder walls begins and they are easily pitted. I have never been this quick, so instead, upon noticing the slight leak, I start shopping for a reasonable price on a new slave cylinder. The time for a slight leak to go to the catastrophic level seems to be on the order of months.
