hey,
i just bought an '83 vanagon about a month ago for $1500 and ever since i've
owned it it's been a big problem. it took quite a bit of cash to make it
street legal and now i've lost second gear. the transmition problem hapened
yesterday and i've gotten quite a bit of advice from vw people. i think my
best option is to find an old tranny and change it out with mine. the problem
is i don't know which model vanagons would have the proper tansmition for
mine. i have a late '83 model, so that makes it water cooled. anyways, i was
trying to find a solution for that when i was driving to my sister's house
tonite and my radiator blew up. following that my oil ran dry and i had to
pull over on the freeway and get a ride home. see, my temperature guage
doesn't work so i didn't know that the radiator had been drained and that my
oil was the only thing keeping the engine cool,and you know the rest. well, i
jjust don't know what in the hell to do. did i get ripped off or just unlucky?
should i dump the van or try to salvage it? it's still sitting on the side of
101 and i'll try to get it in the morning, but as far as what to do with it
after that i just don't know. i'm not sure if you can help me out but i would
appeciate any advice you can give me.
