The sachs clutches are defective, it seems. Lots of chattering. Lots of talk about recalls and defects. I have a syncro....VW specifies a different clutch for the syncro...when Volks Cafe ordered one from VW using the special syncro clutch part number....i got a premium european clutch which performs smooth as butter. The sachs that was put in before we did this chattered within 2000 miles.

Volks Cafe has the syncro part number. I do not know whether ordering a clutch from the dealer for a regular, non-syncro clutch will get you a non-chattering clutch, but it's probably worth investigating. Also, worn cross-shafts have been reported to cause chattering. steve
