I know this is an exhausted thread (ahem) but I'm new to the group, and I'm having trouble passing emissions w/ my '84 wasserboxer GL.

The CO is just slightly high -- like 3 %. But having done a bunch of exhaust work recently, I know the CAT is completely toast (as in ~empty~).

Any helpful hints about quick and easy fixes for elevated CO? Normally, I'd consider replacing the CAT kind of drastic, but I have a line on a really cheap new one. Would this even fix the CO problem though? What does a CAT really do anyway?
