Hello Michael ,

As I told you before the way is our Audi/VW 5 Cyl.

But I discover that you real a Diesel enthusiast,so am I. I had to learn that the American way not the Diesel way is the Gasstation net is not made for Diesel ....

OK back to your concerne , The 1.6 l Diesel and turbo Diesel have the problem that after a couple of year the heads get crackt. As I tell you after years , the cracks have nothing to to with Distance/Miles the reason that the heads get crackt is to seek in short distance drive , when the heads are unever heathed they got stress between the Valveseats and after a short time the cracks apear and grow bigger and bigger untill the cracks reach the waterpipe. Then ,when the engine cooled down the head shrink a little bit and the cracks open so the water dripp in the combustion room. With the high compression it's enough to have a problem to start the Motor(some people think the starter is weak). With the designe of the Vanagon cooling system this effect will be apear more often. I do not have any experience with the 1.9 Diesel , but the construction of the engine is mostlikely the same.

The idea to take a Diesel Inline 4 Cyl. for the Vanagon do not make sence when you drive less then 40 Miles a day, actually the best way for a realy long live of this engine is when it never cool down!!!

Do not hesitate to call me if you have further question. 925 606 8797 Sincerely Detlev

The 1.9 TDI(Direkt Injektion) is a differnt story. The heads are different designet and I never heart about cracks in the heads. also shure that you got the Trottle controller ,wire harness and the controler with the right injektion pump. The price is realy good , my friend in Germany try to get price on this engines .

If you like give me more Info about the engine from Germany mayby I can discover what is going on , because my German is far better then my engilsh.
