Subject: The value of a thing / Speed / Insurance
Content-Type: text/plain

Volks -

I'm not referring to a VW Thing, but the old line from economics, "The value of a thing is what that thing will bring".

Ron from the Bus Depot mentioned in a recent post that he had a couple of Westys for sale, but he might wait until spring when the prices are higher. I have also noticed quite a few Westys for sale on the internet recently.

Is this really a flat season, with more vehicles for sale than interested buyers? What have list members noticed about prices and availability as the seasons change?

I'm curious because I haven't had many nibbles on my 83.5. I can't sell it until I get back from Atlanta with the '87, so I'm not in a rush, but - am I more likely to get a good price in April or May? If so I would rather wait until then instead of taking the first offer that comes along. Comments? Thoughts?

Speed -

Another question - As I plan my trip I have been wondering about how fast it's reasonable to push a Westy for long distances.

To recap - In March I plan to drive an '87 Westy with the stock 2.1 from Atlanta to Moscow, Idaho. I'm going by way of Denver, so it's roughly 2700 miles, almost all on the freeway. That's 41.5 hours at 65 mph, but only 36 hours at 75 mph.

What's reasonable? I will have just had a mechanic go through it, (and I will have him check the fuel lines!!), but it's new to me, so I am a little nervous about pushing the beast too hard until we get to know each other better.

Insurance -

To follow up on the insurance thread from last month. American States Insurance dropped my full coverage insurance by $77 when they reclassified my '87 as a Class B motor home. My agent had to do a little talking to them, but it worked. Thanks to all who brought it up!!
