David and others, I would prefer we pay more for the upgrade than subject ourselves to additional advertising. I am completely out of touch with the costs of new computer equipment but with 700+ listees to share the expense I don't think we need to be subsidized by outside (non Vanagon) interests. As someone else has stated, with our group buying power, the dollar amount that may be asked of each member is minimal compared to the return on the investment. It is a FACT that I have saved hundreds of dollars utilizing Vanagon List resources. I sent a contribution for a Gerry upgrade last month and will continue to help support the Vanagon List. For the record, I do appreciate the vendors we do have and consider them one of our MOST valuable resources. Parts are not just parts. It makes a huge difference buying from someone who knows what they are selling. Furthermore, most if not all "our" vendors can tell the inexperianced members exactly how to install what they are buying. You don't get that kind of service just anywhere. Heck, I had trouble finding "metric" sized fuel injection hose in my area. Long Live The Vanagon List! Andrew |
