Dear Steve,
My heart goes out to you. Be thankful they didn't break ten other things while your car was in their shop. My own experience with body shops is awful -- everytime I take my car in, something else gets "lost", "chipped", "dented" or "broken".
E.G. I even discovered that the son of the owner was making use of the bed (don't ask how I figured it out!).
Cheers, MJS
