Subject: I-5 conversion questions(was:Wasser...I drove it)
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I think it's great if the Wasser is your choice power plant. I have had good results with mine as well, going long miles on the bottom end with the requisite head gasket jobs every 60-80K. But I am really interested in some more hard info on some of these conversions. These questions are for Detlev or Ken .I would like to know if indeed the 5 cyl. does fit under the existing deck? At what angle does the motor sit? Did you get Kennedy to cut the adapter plate or did you get it locally or did you fabricate yourself. What is the quality of the engine support. Are factory Audi engine mounts used. If not what was used?Is the accelerator cable adapted without problems when an automatic trans is used? Was there any problem with the angle of the oil pan ? Please don't take offense at my questions about this kit. I have some friends that have done conversions on different cars,(have you ever seen a rabbit powered baja beetle? ). I have seen all the Web pages with info for different conversions. I am aware of the different levels of finish and quality that can exist if the workmanship is there,so a few more details on the kit would help. I am very interested in the 5 cylinder conversion and have experience with the engine.I think that it would be a great fit for the Vanagon. Ken, are you going to post any pictures of the kit any time soon? Thanks for the Info! Tom Czerniak 1987 Westy 154,000miles, running great but considering the eventual!
