Actually,

The Type2 bretheren have had their share of list hosting problems, having changed list hosts twice in 30 days.

Most of what you describe is web hosting based, and a faster machine really isn't the issue .. Internet Bandwidth is. In the case of Type2, the archives aren't even hosted at the same place as the mailing list... it is a link off site.

I think the 180Mhz Pentium hardware you have is fine, maybe a fresh load of all the software would help...

As an aside -- I think that all the bus lists have had problems over the last few months with hosting. It might not hurt to suggest that having them join resources together on one list host site would help. It is the "list way" and the "VW way". From what I've heard, there are old rivalries with some of the list admins -- but most of those persons have since passed the baton.

Mark has a good point...all works fine, generally, and we have a spare list for when it does not.

On the other hand, we could make this list a heck of a lot more than it is, with much faster searching, a web page with FAQ, a section with photo guided repair/upgrade info, and so much more, like our type II brethern have done. I doube we would have any problem coming up with the cash necessary to get started on upgrading the entire list, starting with a new up-to-date server. Even if we don'ty do it now, sooner or later we will want to.
