Subject: Did stalling my van break it?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi All, I had a near-stall experience in my van (not quite used to its shifting positions yet since we've owned it only a week), but anyway it was stalling (the oil/etc lights came on) so I quickly pushed in the clutch and the engine started running again, but after that I started hearing a mid-pitched quiet hum/buzz from under the mid-cabin area. This lasted for the rest of the day of driving around town. The next morning I started it, and I noticed the hum/buzz was gone, but the idle is now searching (500-1500rpm) and while driving, it occasionally "bucks" (right term? - hesitated/jerks, but it was very quick, not affecting the RPM indicator). Until we get our Bentley (and lots of nerve), we'll be taking our van to the local VW expert for repair, but it would be really nice if we could go into the shop with some possible ideas about the problem - and also I'm wondering if it's even worth the mechanic's time for me to relate the above story to him. Any ideas or advice would be welcome!

Regards, Emily Boulder, Colo. '89 Westy as yet unnamed (but I have a friend who agreed to translate some possible choices into German - we have to find a name our kids can pronounce!)
