Must be a California thing. I spoke recently with the tank expert at Manchester regarding the new propane regulations that require the auto shutoff and overfill valves. Manchester's new Westy style tanks include these features, but are exempt from the law. The new regulations only apply to the BBQ style and other type of tanks.

I'm going to try to get a copy of the new regulations, but if someone could do some research on the California end, I'd like to know what the law says out there.

Our Westy tanks are lifetime certified, and under US regulations, do not require any periodic inspections. This doesn't mean that you should not have your tank inspected. In fact, I highly recommend it. Just be careful of those propane dealers who don't understand the laws, or those out to sell you a new tank when you don't need one. Just find another dealer.
