The golden rule: always suspect connectors! When this hapened to me years ago hours of searching revealed a connector at the left side bulkhead/firewall that joined the wires from the sending units to the loom going forward; split the connector and careful perusal showed that the swaged connector pins had not been fully seated in the plastic holders (at the factory). Pushed 'em home, reconnected, & no more problems since. (vibration was causing intermittant make'n'breaks).
