Ouch.

Thanks to all who gave advice re: transmission job in San Diego. The local mechanic just called, relaying the word from I.T.S. of El Cajon, transmission specialists recommended by all and sundry.

The word is the ring and pinion gear is shot and the transmission itself is rusty (an earlier life in Ontario is to blame), so that it's not worth much.

New (rebuilt) transmission: $1700 Clutch, R&R, etc.: $600

Total: Well, you do the math.

Do these numbers stand up? Well, the $600 is but a drop in the bucket these days, but $1700? Do I remember hearing numbers like $950?

What's going on?

TIA,

Neil '87 Westy GL

PS Went to Inuvik and back trouble free. Since then it's been a moneysink.
