In the next year or so I hope to purchase either a TDI or 1.9 TD for my '81 air-cooled vanagon. The 2L engine is in ok shape (I rebuilt it a few years ago) but I'm eager to have civilized amenities like heat. It all depends on prices and inter-operability. I'll note that it's much easier to package a "complete" 1.9TD than TDI, since one doesn't need all the accessories like accelerator pedal pot, and complete is important when looking for parts that are very hard to come by in the US!
