Pete, A couple of months ago I had a similiar problem. Here in the wilds of NE Oregon, Vanagon starters are NOT common. NAPA was the only local option and they wanted around $200 for a rebuilt. I have not had any success with NAPA VW parts (another story...) so I got on the phone. The local auto electric shop (Thompson's Auto Electric, La Grande, OR) ended up rebuilding my starter for the grand total of $35. Took 'em a couple of hours. Moral of story: Use the yellow pages. Automobile - Electrical. Save yourself a buck or hundred. Jim Arnott WetWesties Union, OR |
