I am a former Kombi owner (1970, 1974). Never quite got resigned to not having a VW Camper, and I'm now back in a position to reinstate myself among the ranks of Vanagon owners. I have been looking around awhile, and am torn between going back to a late vintage (78 or 79) Kombi, or going for a newer camper from the 1984-1991 era. I am getting conficting information about maintenance costs, availability of parts, desireability of water vs. air cooled engines, and whether older campers can be air-care certified in BC -- between these two styles. Can anyone out there offer me sage advice? I'm located in the Vancouver, BC, area, in case that matters.
