E-Code is the term given to European spec. lights. these are also known as H4s.

What makes them so good? - They are more efficient in the way they reflect light. Low beam and high beam allow you to see better and farther due to the superior light pattern - the low beams are not as hard on oncoming traffic as the North Americian spec DOT or 9004 lights. There is also a greater variety of bulbs available for H4 as opposed to 9004.
