Dear Kevin,

The 4" square "dark square" is nothing other than a fold-up beverage holder. And yes, it does clear the fold-out bed. The little 2" thingy on the bottom of the passenger-side door is a square VW "new beetle" magnet that I picked up at one of the LiMBO events -- it looked nice!
