Well, you only spent about twice what you needed to. Not bad for vanagon stuff :-). Prestone and Peak both make ethylene glycol, phosphate-free coolants. They also make other types, so read the label. I found Prestone at the local Tru-Value hardware store. Peak was at All-Car (auto parts chain store). Price was 7 - 8 dollars/gallon. Havoline also makes a suitable coolant, but the label says it shouldn't be mixed with other brands, so you have to do a thorough flush before switching to it.
