The stuff you refer to as grease is, in fact, soap. Ideal Industries make something called "Yellow 77" that you can find at Home Depot, Lowes, or an Ace Hardware store. If you do not want to spend five bucks for a small tube of this stuff, use dish detergent or liguid laundry soap. Neither will berakdown the plastic coating on the wire you're pulling. Avoid petrol based ludes, as these could harm the plastic or cross-link poly coating on the wire.

Hope this helps.

I have a #4 automotive wire to pull through about 4 feet of snug fitting plastic tubing. I don't want to go to a larger size tube or a smaller wire. I know that electricians use wire greese to make it easier to pull wires through conduit. Is there any reason NOT to use this greese on automotive wire insulation? Thanks. Bill 90 Westy Syncro
