Todd,

If you could take but a minute and explain (perhaps again; sorry if I missed it the first time) what the differences are between the various vanagon transmission models and, especially, what's the difference between the 091 "generations", I think it would be very helpful.

It would also be *very* helpful if you could advise us how to determine which model of transmission- including "generation #" we have in our various vanagons.

Having just encountered the dreaded, but inevitable, leaking head gasket problem in my '91 Westy (@75K), I'm trying to figure out what other expensive 'routine maintenance" items I need to start planning for.
