Subject: DISTRIBUTOR, INSTALLING
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Howdy Volks, I finally got the new distributor in for "Das Boot." She is a 1986 Westy with Digifant injection. I am attempting to install it myself. I have the Bentley and the Haynes manual. Both talk about "aligning the rotor with the notch in the distributor body that corresponds to the number cylinder." I can't figure to which notch they refer. Mine has two. One is about a centimeter wide and is adjacent to the electrical connector. The other is on the opposite side and is no more than a small mark that could have been made by drawing a hacksaw across the edge or by stamping with a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. Which notch do they mean??? I called the VW dealer in Montgomery, Alabama for help. In addition to being rude, the service manager said, "Naw, ain't nobody here gonna talk to you about it. My technicians don't come to the phone and I ain't gonna help you cause if you do it wrong you will burn the motor up." Does anybody know what he is talking about. My frustration and anxiety meter is starting to creep up. Burn the motor up? Please help. Thanks, Dan Hall
