Subject: RACKS & AXLES!

I had my CVs "rebuilt" by a local shop, CANNON'S RACKS & AXLES, just down the road from me in this little rural town, just North of Chattanooga, last Summer. Seems like it cost me about $80, with me taking them out and delivering them to the shop.

Talked to the owner, today, and he told me that, for Vanagons, his standard fee, now, is $69 per axle, including two rebuilt CVs, with a donor axle. If he has to remove/install them, there is a $60 charge.

For rebuilding a power-steering rack, he charges $225.

IF I understand his warranty correctly, there is a 30-day guarantee, which includes reimbursement for the labor charged by whomever replaced the parts. Lifetime warranty as far as the job goes.

This isn't necessarily an AD for Cannon, BUT more of an example of what one might expect to pay for such jobs! Hell, I screwed up several of the bolts getting my CVs out last Summer and Cannon gave me a handful of the proper bolts to put back in.
