Subject: A/C ducts recall info needed
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I have an appointment with my local VW Dealer to have the A/C duct recall work performed on my '87 Syncro. This initial appointment is so that they determine what is needed to make the repairs. The problem I am having is that the condenser housing in the rear of the van is falling down. The mounting tabs are completely broken off the housing and the nut thingies mounted to the body are stripped and loose in the holes. I've been using a couple of wood sticks to hold it up. There is also a major crack running though both side of the right speaker cut out in the housing. I used epoxy to try to stop the crack but it didn't hold.

I would appreciate any info from others who have had this recall work done. I have read the info that is available in the archives but didn't learn much. My concern is that they will try to "put a Band-Aid on a bullet hole" or somehow make matters worse by assigning the job to the shop rookie on probation. Considering what I've experienced with VW Dealers regarding Vanagons, I'd prefer to sign a bogus work order, get the parts, do the job myself, and let them bill VW for what ever they want.

Thanks,

Andrew
