Das Boot calling again, 1986 Westy, Digifant injection: Coil resistance measurements between terminals 1 and 15 are within specs.

I had the ignition switched on while doing the tests for the Hall sender and the ignition switching function.

Hall sender is receiving 11 volts--(Bentley says a minimum of 10 volts.)

Per the Bentley: With voltmeter connected to terminals 1 and 15 on the coil I get a reading of 6 volts with the ignition switched on. Connecting the center terminal of the electrical connector for the distributor to ground actuates the fuel pump and causes the voltage to jump to 8-9 volts and then return to 6 volts. The Bentley doesn't mention anything about a constant 6 volts. It only asks for a brief jump to 4.5 volts when grounding the center connector for the distributor. In addition, if the ignition switch is left on, the coil will start heating up. After a few minutes it will be too hot to touch.

Are the voltage readings I obtained within specs? Should the coil get hot if the ignition switch is left on? Thanks Dan Hall '86 Westy
