So i bought this 82 Westy that the PO said had no compression and the starter was bad. My intention was to convert my 87 Syncro into a westy Syncro but....While my wife was towing me home I could not resist rurning the key on and seeing if the 82 would fire up. she did and so I drove her all the way home. Then i started her up with the "bad" starter and rove her to the carwash to clean off the motor. Yesterday I did a compression test all the cylinders have between 85-95psi. So the question is do I go ahead and convert or put a few bucks into the 82 and drive her in the summertime. I need the syncro mainly in the winter as It's cold and slippery here. The plugs were mostly chalky black no oil or greasey look to them at all. Am I right to figure that maybe new heads will fix this beast. Thanks for advice in advance.

Pondering my options in the Big Sky Country
