Darrell and Volks,
I really appreciate the help. Here are the latest test results:
Battery voltage was 12.5 volts at the battery.
ECU connected, ignition on, engine off:
Coil terminal #1 minus side 3.5 volts
Coil terminal #15 plus side 9.5 volts
ECU disconnected, ignition on, engine off:
Coil terminal #1 minus side 3.5 volts
Coil terminal #15 plus side 9.5 volts
ECU disconnected, ignition on, engine off:
Pin 25 on the ECU connector 3.5 volts I should have gotten 12.5 volts
according to the Bentley.
My theory: Having the ECU connected or disconnected made no difference in the voltage. Also, Pin 25 on the ECU connector(ECU disconnected) was showing low voltage(3.5 instead of 12.5 volts.)
If the voltage isn't altered by the removal of the ECU wouldn't this point to a problem elsewhere in the system?
Also, I had no continuity between the smaller green wire at the coil and pin 17 on the ECU connector. The Bentley says the smaller green wire should go to pin 17. I have continuity at pin 25 and the coil as it says I should in the Bentley.
Where do these results point? What do I test next?
Bad coil?
Bad injector wire?
Bad wire to dash(I have no tach, only a crummy clock?) Do I understand that a bad wire to the instrument cluster can crash this whole injection system??
I guess VW never heard of Apollo 13.
The metal Digifant protective housing under the seat has plastic washers to keep it off the body of the van at the top. The phillips screw that attaches the housing to the body of the van has no washer, therefore, the metal housing is grounded. Is this a problem?

Hi Scott,
Ok, I wondered out to the shed this morning and checked some coil
voltages. These readings were with key on engine off. I checked coil
voltage on an 86 westy, 87 van, 85 truck. All had plus battery 12.6 volts
on both sides of the coil. It appears your digifant ecu has a problem in
the coil circuit. Maybe some kind listee will drop by and plug their
digifant into your van to be positive 100 percent.
