Howdy all,
I am reluctantly putting the Prairie Schooner on the block. I've
been on the list since mid-1996 so you can follow some of my triumphs and
tribulations via the archives. As the subject header indicates, the van is
in Nebraska (Lincoln), however I am in Vermont. The short of it is that
there was a catostrophic failure in the bottom end less than a week before I
moved out east. A rebuilt AVP 2.1 waterboxer has been installed by the local
Vanagon gurus (Olstens). I will happily send a jpeg upon request.
Here's the poop on this rig:
1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Weekender
Metallic Burgundy (Bordeau)
115,000 miles on body
100 miles on rebuilt AVP engine (12 month/12,000 mile warranty on engine)
3 speed automatic transmission
AM/FM cassette stereo (stock Heidelberg) Kenwood door speakers
Power windows
Power locks
Power Steering
Air conditioning (recharged last summer)
Cruise control
Alloy wheels
Yokohama Y370's (~ 20,000 miles on them)
Fiberglass body mouldings
Rear seat folds into double bed
Bentley manual
Cable chains
Screens for side windows
Vial of touch-up paint
New parts (less than 1 year old): Radiator, Starter motor, Engine, Water
pump, Rear heater core
The good: This is a fairly pristine van that has been thoroughly debugged
(see the new parts list). The interior is in great shape, very clean. Dash
looks like new. All chips have been immediately touched up although there
are a fair number of touch-up spots.
The bad: there is a small area of surface rust on the step of each wheel
well, under the small rubber mat. The valve for the rear heater needs to be
replaced. I simply bypassed the coolant hoses so it didn't leak on the
carpet. A new valve is about $50 and the replacement should be simple.
Lastly, the rear bumper has a crease in it on the driver side. Its not
obvious, but its noticeable. Only fix for that is replacement. The crease
shows up in the jpeg, so you'll know what you're getting.
The Ugly: Only the driver :)
The Blue book values for this van are approximately $10K. I am asking for
$9K but will definately listen to offers. If you're interested, email me for
a jpeg and I'll let you know the name and email of the person selling it for
me in Nebraska. If you're in the neighborhood of Lincoln, NE, you're welcome
to check it out and take it for a spin. She doesn't know much about Vanagons
so questions regarding the history of the van are best directed to me.
Thanks for the bandwidth.
Pat
