Thanks for posting this great information. I thought it was very interesting, especially about the noise of the TDI. I wondered why VW had gone to so much effort to encapsulate the engine to reduce noise.

I just bought my second complete 1.6 TD engine at a U-pull-it yard for $178 USD. I will rebuild it and install in my Vanagon. Hopefully, when these two engines are worn out, the price on a used TDI will be affordable and I will be able to buy one then.
