Bob, congrats on your new van. Regarding smog testing a Syncro, don't worry. They don't dyno test it. I'm in Vancouver, BC where we have emissions testing, along with the dyno test. They can only do an idle test for the Syncro or any all wheel drive vehicle. Just be alert when you take it in. I usually drive the van across the dyno and stop so that the back wheels are about a foot away from the dyno, and put the brake on. This is my hint. It usually works.
