kind of a generalized statement... maybe in some cases, but the majority of audi 5000's ive seen - even over 200k - have never has the valve cover off.. i own 3 hi- mileage audi 5000's. All turbos, (one close to the 200k mark) and not one has had the valve cover off (ok, my most recent addition has had the valve gover off, but that was just to replace the valve cover gasket...) all in all, if you buy a running, driving 5000, around 150-250k mi., then you can prolly get quite a number of miles out of it before you have to overhaul it...
