Dave,
I know that the degree of damage makes a lot of difference. Perhaps
there was nothing critical about the car's injuries, but it's so easy to
have something wrong with a shock mount, the fuel tank, a brake line, or
some other non-obvious system damage that would make it "dangerous at
any speed". I, too, have driven cars home under similar circumstances,
but I drove them at well below the speed limit.
