Vanagoneers;

I'm sorry to tie-up this List with a non-Vanagon post but it appears that some of you are also Audi owners and I find myself in need of some information about 5000's. I just bought an '85 5000S Avant. This particular car is a non-turbo, non-Quattro version and has a toasted automatic transmission - how common a problem is this and what would my options be as far as replacing it? Any other mechanical items to take note of on a 5000 with 138,000 miles? I've seen several 5000's in local wreaking yards, is it worth taking a chance on a used transmission or are they all prone to failure before the engines? How rare is the station wagon version and does it have any quirks that are different from the sedans? What year did the 5000 go from front disc/rear drum brakes to 4-wheel disc brakes? Finally, do any of you know of anyone who may have a Bentley manual for the 5000 for sale?

Please reply to me by P-mail and NOT via the List.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bandwidth.
