Well folks, I've finally completed the 1.9 Turbodiesel Syncro Westy conversion! I've been having a dream a few nights in a row, that my Syncro was transformed into a quiet, torquey beast, totally unlike it's former self. Well, after the first real drive, I now know that it REALLY IS!! I am amazed at how different this van is now. None of the weird surges and jerks of the waterboxer, just smooth, torquey acceleration. The first test I threw at it was to climb the mountain road to the local State Park, a road which always took a drop to 3rd, and occasionally 2nd, to climb. The TD pulled the entire way in 4th....amazing....I'm gonna love this engine! A few minor quirks to iron out, but the major job is done. Whew! The TD really sounds neat when the boost comes on, with the 2 1/2" exhaust I built, lots of great turbo whistle. Can't wait to get an intercooler plumbed and get the boost up a bit more...yeeha! Many thanks to those on the list that contributed parts and knowledge to this project.

Karl 1987 Syncro Westy Turbodiesel !
