Well, it's not for the back yard mechanic.

It took the case from my 2WD and had a machinist cut and weld a block on to the side to imitate the Syncro trans. case. Since then I have learned that there are 2wd trans. that came with the lock up. So you can get the case as you require. All other parts except the dash valve were out of the Syncro. No need for the vacuum amplifier, if your motor is running well. Make sure you install the light. This is more important than you think.

To be up front, I would not recomend this becuase of the drivablilty when locked. The Van becomes almost imposible to steer on ice or snow, and that's when you would want to use the lock up most. If I were going to attempt anything like this again I would look for a limited slip setup. I was at a dealler once and the parts guy asked me if the rear axle was limited slip? My reply was I didn't know VW ever made a limited slip? So you may want to check into VW's parts department.
