I am a big fan a Castrol due to their sponsorship of VW and Audi racing.
They also make some pretty decent synthetic oil. At the local Costco 5L or
5-50 Synthetic oil is $20 CAD. This oil would be perfect for the dead of
winter where it is -40 to the dead of summer where it is +40C.
Persoanlly I think Synthetic oil is for rich people who get sucked in by
fancy advertising! Yes, no doubt Synthetic is probably better, but I
always run 20W-50 oil during the non winter months [10W40 in the winter].
Most "Dino" oil has synthetic protection additives and you can usually get
4x the amount of Dino as per Synthetic. "They" say you can run synthetic
for a year because it doesn't break down. But, I say it gets dirty just as
quick and it cost 4x as much, so why not put fresh dino oil in at the
change of every season? It costs the same amount in the long run and gives
you better protection as it is cleaner.
My $0.03 worth on the subject!

My 85 Westy GL had a stuck lifter. Used a little "Mystery Oil" and took it
down the highway. Low and behold it freed up! Now I am thinking synthetic
oil and a much better filter. But what weight? I live in CT and the temp
range is 15 to 60. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I found the Westy tent site and the "how to build poles for tent"
(thanks Chip and Stephanie), but I have not been able to find the
connectors that "should be widely available". Has anyone seen anything
like this? I surfed for a few hrs and found nothing. Checked the local
Home Depot hoping to use PVC or conduit connectors, but to no avail.

If anyone has seen these connectors, please let me know.
