Not too much you can do about it. If its a limited product specifically for the Syncro and does not interchange with anything else then the cost of producing that product goes up. Thats why those fancy aerodynamic headlights on new cars cost hundreds of dollars but the 9004 headlight bulbs are only $5. The headlight assembly only fits a specific year and make while the bulb fits just about anything.

Yes.

There are some niche markets, such as mine, but I could not make a go of it if I only did Syncro transaxles. I have to encompass many similar transaxle designs to 'keep my doors open'.
