Subject: Re: key code?

The key code is stamped on the door handle/lock assembly. Remove the large screw then slide pull the handle out. I believe it is a four digit number. I also took this number to the reluctant dealer. The first attempt they entered the numbers in a backwards sequence. So the notches came out upside down. The second attempt did not work either. The machine they use basically bites out all the notches in one chomp. Not very accurate. He refused to try again and sent me to a real locksmith. This fellow new what he was doing and after cross referencing a few manuals was able to successfully make a working key.

A man went to a VW dealership to pick up their Vanagon, but were told that the keys had been accidentally locked in it. They went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door.

As they watched from the passenger's side, the guy instinctively tried the door handle and discovered it was open.

"Hey," the man announced to the technician, "It's open!"

"I know," answered the young man. "I already got that side."
