Syncro-nuts

The Blizzard of 99 hits Rochester NY. Well more snow has fallen in 48 hours in Rochester than the efficient NY crews can clear and salt. My Syncro has performed flawlessly going around all the stranded cars and jack-knifed semis.

I had to go into work Friday morning with about 12 inches of blowing snow on the road. Already the roads were slick from the previous days rain storm. Going up the slope of one of the many moraine remnants of the last ice age, I pulled the diff-lock and took off in the right lane to pass a line of cars waiting patiently behind a semi slip-sliding away sideways. Wish there would have been a video camera - Great advertising for Syncros and VW. Traffic was crawling on the expressway, never got out of 2nd gear. I made it off the off-ramp just in time because shortly afterwards it was considered too slick for all traffic. Worked till 3 while looking at the mess outside through the windows. It continued to snow all day to break a record of 24+ inches in less than 24 hours. The ride home was like a nuclear bomb had gone off with cars scattered absolutely everywhere. It was an obstacle course. Semis and delivery trucks were not helping the situation being jacknifed and sideways on the road as well. The Syncro performed very well even with the crappy Gooyear P-rated junky all-weather tires that the PO threw on before selling it. I could tell that I had hardly any traction in the slush/ice/snow.

Sounds like I better just order a good set of Michelins and quit whining about the price.

The snow has been blowing all day dropping another 15 inches from Lake Ontario in my neighborhood. More fun in a Syncro! It's more fun than my Subaru Legacy.
